09-09-09: Norton AntiVirus and Internet Security 2010 Released
Everyone’s dressed to the Nines: Apple (of both Beatles and iPod fame), Tim Burton, and now Symantec. The makers of Norton have released their 2010 lineup of AntiVirus and Internet Security.
The day has come, and perhaps you’ve picked up your copy of Beatles Rock Band and/or the remastered Beatles catalog of songs. Maybe you’re going to go see the Tim Burton CGI flick ironically enough titled “9.” Have you heard the extra special fact that the words “September,” Wednesday,” and “AntiVirus” all have Nine letters in them?
We’re in the process of updating our Antivirus reviews (security software manufacturers traditionally release their newest in the fall (or Autumn if you will). We’re reviewing Norton AntiVirus 2010 (and Norton Internet Security 2010) as we speak, so be sure to check our Antivirus reviews to see how they compare and what we like and don’t like. For now, here’s a few of the features that we’re sure to cover more in-depth in the future:
- Reputation (the next level in malware protection? Works to balance traditional signature antivirus and behavioral heuristics to find the malware that slips through the cracks)
- Norton Insight Network (real-time proactive protection leveraged from Norton’s unique global network of users and technology)
- Norton Download Insight (prevents downloading malware unknowingly)
- Norton Threat Insight (“proves” that Norton works by showing you the malware they find and what actions were taken)
- SONAR 2 (updated behavioral analysis and heuristic protection)
- Norton System Insight (“flip” the UI to see what’s going on behind the scenes)
Until we’ve got some more hand-on “insight” of our own, check out our current lineup of AntiVirus software reviews, or a blog post or two (sorry, not nine) that you might find interesting:
Norton Online Family (included for free with Norton Internet Security)
Norton 2010 Beta (our pre-release look)
Premiium Security Suites (new security software review site)
