Antivirus Alert: Security Sphere 2012
By Alina Bradford

There is a lot of software out there that claims to be good for your computer, but can actually scam you out of money or harm your computer. This type of software is called hoax anti-virus software. Security Sphere 2012 is one of these bogus software systems that should be removed from your computer right away.

How Security Sphere Works

Security Sphere is a clone of other hoax software. This type of hoax anti-virus software is designed to scam you out of money by infecting your computer. Here is how the process typically works:

  1. A pop-up will appear on your computer while you are using the internet.
  2. The pop-up will appear to be scanning your computer for viruses. The pop-up will look like a real virus scanner, so it will be very convincing.
  3. After the scan is complete, the pop-up will inform you that your computer is infected and that you need to purchase and download Security Sphere 2012 to remove the threat. Of course, the report is false on most occasions. Sometimes the pop-up will inform you that your security software isn't working to convince you to download the hoax antivirus software.
  4. Once the fake software is downloaded, it will disable your other security software and spread its pop-ups through your computer. So, not only are you spreading the scam without knowing it, but your computer is also left open to other attacks.
  5. Often, the software distributor will allow you to download the software for free, but will claim that it can't fix your computer until you purchase the premium software package. To convince you to upgrade, the software will slow down your computer to make you think it is infected.

Of course, under no circumstances should you download or purchase this useless, and sometimes harmful, software. If you have already downloaded it, there is a way to reverse the problem yourself.

How to Remove Security Sphere

Thankfully, Security Sphere is easy to remove, unlike other hoax software. All you need to do is download a free, automatic removal tool that is available on the web. Some removal tools that have been found effective in removing this particular software are Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Spy Sweeper and SUPERAntiSpyware.

How to Prevent Security Sphere 2012

The best way to stop hoax software from ruining your day is to practice a little prevention.

  1. Avoid sites that use pop-up ads.
  2. Install a pop-up blocker or use your internet browser's pop-up blocking tools. Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer all have built-in blocking systems. All you have to do is activate them by accessing your browser's options menu.
  3. Don't install software without researching it, using reputable sites like this one.

Scammers and hackers can pop up no matter where you go on the web. Fortunately, a little prevention and a little computer cleaning using a removal tool is all you need to defeat Security Sphere 2012.
