The Windows Debugging Center virus is a complete and utter financial scam. This fake security software poses as antivirus software. In reality, it is malware. Here’s everything you need to know about the Windows Debugging Center virus and how to get rid of it.

How the Windows Debugging Center Virus Fools Users

Users get this scam software by visiting various phishing websites. If you visit one of these bogus sites, an alert will pop up – allegedly from Microsoft Security Essentials – saying that it has detected a virus on your computer. Microsoft Security Essentials is actually one of the most reputable free antivirus products available. Microsoft produces this security software, so many users are inclined to believe this alert is the real deal.

This pop-up then directs the user to click on the Clean Computer button to get rid of the virus. Again, many people have heard of the real Microsoft Security Essentials and think that it was preinstalled on their PCs, so they click the Clean Computer icon. However, clicking this icon actually installs the Windows Debugging Center virus.

Once installed, the Windows Debugging Center virus will run every time you launch Windows, under the name Windows Debugging Center. The malware will bombard you with pop-ups claiming that it has detected all sorts of terrible viruses on your computer. In reality, the Windows Debugging Center virus is the true threat that is secretly stealing your sensitive personal and financial information. The fake software offers to solve all your problems if you simply upgrade to the full version – for a fee, of course.

Given that Windows is in the name of this malware, many people think it is simply part of their computers' preinstalled software and are highly inclined to believe its alerts. At this point, many people use their credit cards to pay the hackers who create and spread this virus, thinking they are buying an upgraded version of legitimate security software. This is a very tricky threat.

This bogus software is considered very serious. In addition to stealing your information, it will systematically delete your important documents, photos and other files in the hope that you’ll believe that these alleged viruses in your system are responsible.

How to Remove the Windows Debugging Center Virus

This fake security software can cause serious, irreparable damage to you personally and you should remove it as soon as possible. However, removing the virus is difficult. In order to do so manually, you will need to seek out and find all the hidden files and registry entries that stem from the virus and delete them one by one. Several online guides and manuals can instruct you on how to do this. However, if you’re not exactly tech savvy, this is probably not the best solution for you because it requires at minimum a moderate level of technical knowhow.

The other option you have for removing this malware is to use legitimate security software. The top-rated security software suites such as BitDefender Antivirus, Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Webroot Antivirus, to name a few, are all capable of scanning for and eradicating the Windows Debugging Center virus.
