Free Tool for Removing Conficker Worm
T-Minus 6 hours and counting ... that could vary depending on where you read this blog and when you read it. But at the moment of posting, the Conficker worm will be updated with malevolent software that will make it harder to track and possibly more dangerous than it already is. The worm, notorious for disabling Windows security features once it has infected a computer, is difficult to stop and track. But there are steps you can take, tonight, to stop it.
Aside from the obvious avoiding weird spam websites and emails and installing anti-virus software, there are some steps you can take specifically against the Conficker/Downadup worm. BitDefender, our No. 1 rated anti-virus software, has launched a free tool to remove all versions of the Conficker worm on both home and work computers. Last week they launched it for consumers, today they put out a version for business networks. The only problem is that you have to download it tonight. It may not work with the evil update, which is rumored to make the worm even harder to track.
Researchers are just beginning to be able to track the old Conficker worm and this new BitDefender program uses that technology to help IT administrators find the worm and remove it. There is no one sure way to stop it yet, but downloading programs like this will definitely help protect you and your networks from allowing the malware to access personal and valuable information and will clear your network of the worm so you don't automatically get the updated version.
