Anti-Malware Lab is a type of malware that poses as antivirus software. Basically, you download the bogus software through unknown email attachments or from phishing websites. Then the software bombards you with endless pop-ups and windows saying that your computer has been horribly infected with many bad viruses and Trojans. Anti-Malware Lab even presents you with a list of the supposedly infected files.

In reality, Anti-Malware Lab has created those files, and they do nothing to harm your system. However, now that you think those fake files are irreparably damaging your computer and stealing your information, you may choose to upgrade to the paid version of Anti-Malware Lab once it gives you the option. This is where the scam software can actually cheat you out of money and steal your credit card information.

Anti-Malware Lab also prevents legitimate antivirus software from functioning while it has infected your computer. The scam software hijacks Internet Explorer and randomly redirects you to various phishing websites and sites that advertise and sell more bogus security software.

What’s more, Anti-Malware Lab disables important tools such as the Windows task manager and registry editor, making it difficult to remove it from your computer through any simple, quick process. However, you can remove the scam software with a little elbow grease and the help of legitimate security software. Here’s how:
How to Remove Anti-Malware Lab

  1. First, you’ll need to reboot your computer in what’s called Safe Mode with Networking. You can accomplish this by continuously tapping the F8 function key on the top row of your keyboard while your computer is rebooting. This will bring up the Windows Advanced Options Menu. Use the arrow keys to navigate to and select Safe Mode with Networking.
  2. Log in as you normally would, with the same username and password you use to access your computer.
  3. Launch Internet Explorer. Once Internet Explorer opens, select Tools>Internet Options>Connections from the dropdown menu along the top of the screen. Once the Connections tab pops up, click on LAN Settings and uncheck the box next to Use a Proxy Server for Your LAN. This blocks Anti-Malware Lab from further hijacking Internet Explorer.
  4. Now you should be able to run your legitimate antivirus software. The best antivirus software security suites will run an entire system scan, detect Anti-Malware Lab and eradicate the scam software.

There are other ways to remove Anti-Malware Lab without the use of security software; however, these methods involve downloading an entire manual of instructions and require significant technical knowhow. If you’re tech savvy and know the ins and outs of your system well, you can probably remove this bogus software entirely on your own.

However, if you’re like most of us and don’t understand your computer all that well or just do not want to bother with it, obtaining a legitimate security software suite is the solution. While there are many free security software applications available, the best-rated security software applications such as BitDefender, Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Webroot Antivirus only cost between $30 and $60 and provide you with top-notch protection that is far superior to free antivirus software.
