How to Remove Troj/Bnkmr-Fam

Troj/Bnkmr-Fam is a Trojan that gives a hacker remote access to your computer. This means that the hacker can use your computer from anywhere in the world. The objective of this malware is to allow a hacker to steal your bank information. Once the hacker has your bank information, he can empty your account, open a line of credit in your name or slowly siphon off your savings.

Not only does Troj/Bnkmr-Fam harm you, but it also uses your computer to send infected emails to others, such as your family, friends and work associates. Another way that it spreads is through Flash advertisements and spam. It is particularly easy to catch when you use the Internet Explorer web browser. Troj/Bnkmr-Fam is very easy to get and not so easy to get rid of.

Run Your Virus Protection

First and foremost, you should let your anti-virus software have a crack at removing Troj/Bnkmr-Fam. Open your software and do a manual scan of all your computer's drives, including your external drives. If the software finds the virus, have it delete it and the files associated with it. Do not quarantine the files.

This process should work, but if you aren't positive the software did the job, you can try manual removal.

Manual Removal

Manual removal is a little trickier, but you should be able to do it with a few simple steps.

Shut down your computer.
Restart the computer in Safe Mode. Enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 key (one of the small keys at the top and center on your keyboard) when prompted during start up. If you have trouble seeing the prompt during start up, you may want to hold down the F8 key during the entire start-up process.
Go to the Start Menu.
Run a search for the files "%System%\000003B5C0F5F07E.exe" and "%System%\NovoItau.log". These are files that the virus downloads to your computer.
Right click on the file name and choose the delete option.
Run another search for any file that contains the words "Troj/Bnkmr-Fam."
Right-click on these files and choose the delete option.
Go to the Start Menu again, and open the Accessories file.
Click on Run.
Type in "regedit" and click OK button.
This will bring up a list.
Find "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Troj/Bnkmr-Fam."
Right-click on the file and select Delete.

You can now restart your computer in Normal Mode and it should be clean of any Troj/Bnkmr-Fam Trojans. If you continue to have problems that make you suspect you still have a virus or any type of malicious infection on your computer, it is best to take it to a computer professional right away.

Troj/Bnkmr-Fam is a tough opponent to beat, but with a little work, you can remove it, protecting not only yourself, but others as well. The best defense against future attacks is installing high-quality anti-virus software that scans email messages and websites for malware. There's no need to go through this process again if your computer is well protected.
