Mal/Iframe-E, which was first reported by the antivirus software group Sophos, is a form of virus and spyware that can infect a computer through multiple points of entry. It is a very common threat that poses a moderate degree of danger to computers and their users. Often the virus will be transmitted in an email and will be disguised as either an invoice or a receipt. The virus can also enter a computer over an internet connection and relies on infected websites to transmit it to additional computers. Once a computer is infected, the Mal/Iframe-E creates copies of itself that snoop through the personal data stored on the hard drive and sends this data to a third party.

Oftentimes, once a virus such as Mal/Iframe-E has been found, the damage has been done and removing a virus such as this may need to be done manually. In order to remove the virus, first start by making a backup of essential system files. This should be done ahead of time, preferably before the computer is infected. It is important to back up essential system files before making any major changes to a computer. To remove the virus, delete all of the Mal/Iframe-E processes in the task manager, which can be accessed by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE. The temporary files within Internet Explorer or any other web browser that may have been in use at the time of infection should also be deleted. Depending on the amount of problems being caused by the virus, it may be necessary to reboot the computer and start it in safe mode.

The registry keys for Mal/Iframe-E must be deleted. This requires going to the start menu and selecting “run.” A window will appear, and you should type “regedit” into the text box. Press okay and search through the registry keys in the new window to find one that ends with “Mal/Iframe” and delete it. There are likely other places in which the virus is hiding, and it is important to find these files as well in order to neutralize the threat and protect your computer from any further security breaches. The Mal/Iframe-E file can be found in many different forms, such as a toolbar, browser plug-in or executable file.

After you have located all instances of the Mal/Iframe-E on your computer, it's a good idea to run a virus scanner on the computer in order to catch any remaining traces of the virus that might be hiding in your files. This type of spyware is not something that should be ignored or taken lightly. Not only has it usually done its damage before you even discover it, but it can infect computers in multiple ways. It can be easy to ignore a problem of which you are not already aware, and although this form of virus can seem relatively mundane, it is important to realize that its goal is to steal personal data, and not necessarily to disable a computer system. The personal information that this virus steals could be invaluable.

Using a firewall and running a virus regularly can help prevent viruses such as Mal/Iframe-E from doing too much damage, and many free security software applications can help protect computers. Malicious software such as Mal/Iframe-E that are already in the virus scanner's catalog of viruses stand almost no chance of avoiding detection.
