OpenCloud Antivirus is a rogue anti-virus and anti-spyware software suite. The software is a form of scareware that alarms users by saying their computers are infected with just about every type of malware imaginable. However, these alerts are completely bogus, and you should not upgrade to the paid version of OpenCloud Antivirus. You should remove OpenCloud Antivirus as soon as possible, not only to stop the endless pop-up alert messages, but also to stop the fake anti-virus software from causing problems with your files and web browser.

About OpenCloud Antivirus

The primary way a user's computer becomes infected with OpenCloud is through corrupt, phishing websites. If you visit such a website, OpenCloud can be downloaded to your computer secretly in the background, without you ever knowing about it. Once it's downloaded, you will start receiving totally random pop-up ads with high frequency.
The alarming ads say that OpenCloud has detected several viruses that have already infected your computer. The ads mimic real anti-virus software ads with a good deal of accuracy, using industry jargon such as "cloud computing" and "open source." Many anti-virus software suites today operate on the computing cloud and utilize open-source technology, so the OpenCloud ads can seem legitimate to many users.

However, whereas open-source technology is generally free, OpenCloud is not – and this should be a red flag. OpenCloud Antivirus shows an endless number of alert messages that list all of the infections on your computer. Yet, when you try to use the OpenCloud interface to delete the infections, another pop-up explains that you cannot delete the infections until you upgrade to the paid version. Do not upgrade because the infections listed are bogus.

Even if the infections listed represent real files on your computer, they are simply harmless files. If you have upgraded already, the hackers will charge your credit card and likely steal your credit card number. In this worst-case scenario, call your credit card company immediately, chargeback the purchase and check your credit report to make sure that the hackers are not ringing up other charges with your card.

Even if you have not upgraded, you should remove OpenCloud Antivirus as soon as possible. Removing the fake software will finally end those annoying alert messages. You should also remove OpenCloud because it will begin randomly deleting and corrupting your important files, falsely alerting you that the legitimate websites you visit are malicious and redirecting you to more phishing websites where you'll encounter more viruses, adware, scareware and spyware. This is all done in an attempt to make you think your computer is riddled with viruses and that you should upgrade to the paid version of OpenCloud Antivirus.

Remove OpenCloud Antivirus

Unfortunately, simply using the Add or Remove Software tool in Windows will not rid your system of OpenCloud. The display icons may disappear, but the files will still be hidden on your computer and the pop-ups will still come up all the time. Manually removing OpenCloud is time consuming and involves reading a lengthy instruction manual. If you're not tech savvy, you'll probably have a hard time manually removing the malware. However, many of the top-rated anti-virus software suites do a great job of removing OpenCloud Antivirus and many other pre-existing viruses, in addition to protecting your computer from future threats.
