I wonder if Shrek met Fiona on the dating website www.BeautifulPeople.com. According to the movies, three to be exact, they lived happily ever after and even had children. Despite a few trials and tribulations along the way, everyone was happy in the end.

So, with a show of hands, how many of you will gladly admit that you have tried a dating website? And for those that are honest and have tried the dating scene on the World Wide Web, I’m sure it is safe to say that you only did so thinking you would meet a handsome man or a gorgeous female. Is that right? I’m sure that no one enters a dating website hoping to get a date with an unattractive person, unless you prefer dating those that are less attractive than what you perceive yourself to be.

So what does Shrek have to do with a dating website? Well, Shrek actually became a virus. The Shrek Virus infested the website www.BeautifulPeople.com. The website www.BeautifulPeople.com is a dating website which only accepts members who pass an attractiveness rating, or so it claims to only accept attractive people. Traditionally, a panel of members already accepted by the Beautiful People website must judge all applicants to the website, and if you are deemed “ugly” then you are prohibited to join. The managing director of the website, Mr. Greg Hodge became suspicious that something was wrong when tens of thousands of new members were accepted over a six week period. The Shrek Virus made it possible for “30,000 ugly” people to invade the site. When the Shrek Virus was discovered by Mr. Hodge, the website responded immediately by putting all of the newly accepted members back into a pool to be rated and receive a democratic vote to determine whether or not they were truly beautiful enough to be a part of the website BeautifulPeople.com.

The question is now, how did this Shrek Virus come to be? Initially, it was thought to be the work of a disgruntled employee. Why he or she was disgruntled? No one seems to know the story behind that one. Obviously, they were beautiful enough to work for the site in the first place, but maybe they packed on a few extra pounds and were not as beautiful when they first started working for the site. Other rumors behind the Shrek Virus are that it was for publicity. Many believe that the website www.BeautifulPeople.com concocted the whole virus themselves as away for free publicity. This free publicity allowed thousands of people to look for and join the website whether they were young, old, beautiful, or just pretty ugly; however, the website denies the accusation that this was a hoax. If you are a member of the website www.BeautifulPeople.com there is no need to run out and get your antivirus software up and running because according to the website the Shrek Virus has only affected the website and it will have no effect on any of the member’s computers. Be on the safe side though; get yourself a good antivirus program for when things like this happen. The Shrek Virus is being investigated internally and members are to be assured that their privacy and security has never been breached. What a relief!

The truth of the Shrek Virus will probably never be known. For those that are lucky enough to be on the website, more power to you for being so beautiful, but for those of us that don’t meet the standards, I guess we will never know what we are missing. If anyone was one of the 30,000 that became a member and then got kicked off because the criteria wasn’t meant, well, at least you got a little taste of being beautiful even if it was just for a little while.
