Features:  

McAfee VirusScan is a fairly feature-filled business antivirus software. The product includes the abilities to perform on-access and on-demand virus scans, as well as schedule scans to run at specific times. McAfee accommodates script blocking, scanning of compressed files, and protecting the registry files from malware. 

McAfee VirusScan also utilizes an integrated firewall. VirusScan also specifically protects computers against threats that target Microsoft programs like Word, Excell, Outlook, and even Internet Explorer and Windows Operating Systems. Furthermore, VirusScan keeps an eye out for threats that compromise JavaScript and VisualBasic coding. McAfee VirusScan even detects the rogue threats that write directly to memory (SQLSlammer, CodeRed).

Unfortunately, McAfee VirusScan is missing a few nice features that some of the other software products include, such as protection for smartphones, scanning of removable drives, device restricting, and IM protection. Still, McAfee VirusScan has all the essential features and the product offers quite a bit of utility.

Effectiveness:  

McAfee VirusScan is quite effective at protecting your business resources, including servers. One of the reasons the software is so good at detecting threats is because it utilizes heuristic detection to analyze file behavior and locate viruses before they are even known and on DAT files. McAfee Artemis Technology scans and blocks known and unknown threats, even before a specific signature is available. Updates are provided regularly to keep your protection current, at least once a day.

Another effective solution is the ability to protect email programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes. The actual text and attachments are scanned and filtered to evade email-borne threats.
