Symantec Endpoint Protection offers a unique combination of features and tools. The software is well equipped with powerful functions, such as proactive threat scanning, rootkit removal, and advanced application and device control.

Symantec utilizes the Veritas Mapping Service (VxMS) to access the PC below the OS level. With this in-depth tool, Endpoint Protection is equipped to not only detect, but completely remove complex rootkits that attempt to hide from the user and security programs.

Symantec Endpoint Protection also utilizes TruScan proactive threat scanning to analyze file behavior and determine the threat severity even if it’s not identified on the current virus definition list. Symantec keeps an eye on the entire Internet landscape to protect your business resources from a variety of threats. Unlike some of the similar tools used by competitors, Symantec TruScan evaluates both the good and bad file behavior to get a more realistic idea of unknown applications.

Another nice feature is the ability for administrators to control access of applications. Files, folders, and other programs can be controlled to restrict users from accessing them. This technology can be used to lock down endpoint users to prevent losing important data, and prevent malicious files from spreading to other users.

Furthermore, Symantec Endpoint Protection can be used to control and restrict various devices. The manager can restrict users from connecting and using a variety external devices that may contain viruses, such as CD burners, printers, mp3 players, USB flash drives, and other USB devices. In fact, you can even restrict devices that connect using serial ports, FireWire, infrared, or BlueTooth technology. Restricting these devices can help protect users from taking important files, as well as stop them from deploying malware.
