Uninstalling Vipre Antivirus

Vipre Antivirus is security software produced by Sunbelt Software. Usually, this software is easy to remove with basic techniques that you would use to remove any software from your computer. Sometimes, though, a glitch happens or your computer freezes and you need a strategy that is more advanced.

Simple Uninstall

Like most anti-virus software, you can uninstall Vipre Antivirus by using your computer's Add/Remove Programs tool, located in the Control Panel. Sunbelt Software provides these instructions for a simple uninstall:

1. Go to your computer's Start Menu.
2. Click on the Control Panel option.
3. Click on the Add/Remove Programs tool.
4. Scroll through the list of programs to find the software called Vipre Antivirus + Antispyware.
5. Click on the name of the software.
6. Choose Remove from the options.
7. Allow your computer a few minutes to uninstall Vipre Antivirus. When the process is done, the uninstall window will disappear or you computer will alert you that it is finished.
8. Restart your computer.

With this uninstall method, the software should be completely wiped from your system. If you still find traces of the software or if you can't find the name of the software in your Add/Remove Programs tool, you will need a more-advanced way of uninstalling the software.

Advanced Uninstall

When the name of the Vipre Antivirus software doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Programs tool, this means that the software didn't install properly when you first downloaded it to your computer. This glitch means that you will have to use an outside utility to get rid of Vipre Antivirus.

1. Stop Vipre Antivirus by right clicking its icon.
2. Click on Shutdown Vipre from the list of choices in the menu.
3. Use this Sunbelt Software utility to remove the software.

Frozen Computer Uninstall

If your computer is frozen, meaning you are unable to make it do anything, there are separate uninstall instructions that you can follow:

1. Restart your computer in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key when prompted during start up. The F8 key is one of the small keys at the top and center on your keyboard. The Safe Mode prompt is quick, so make sure that you are carefully watching for it during start up. Some people hold down the F8 key during the entire start up to make sure that they don't miss the prompt. This doesn't work on all computers, but you can give it a try if you repeatedly miss the prompt.
2. Once your computer is running in Safe Mode, go to your Start Menu and choose the Accessories folder.
3. Click on Run program.
4. Type "services.msc."
5. Press OK.
6. Find Vipre Antivirus in the list and choose the disabling option.
7. Restart your computer.
8. Use this Sunbelt Software utility to remove the software.

At least one of these three options will uninstall Vipre Antivirus no matter what the problem is. Once you have uninstalled the software, be sure to install reliable anti-virus software so that your computer isn't vulnerable to attacks.
